LuminOre CopperTouch- Bacterial Copper

Anti-microbial Copper

Since ancient Egyptian times copper has been known to have inherent antimicrobial properties. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) testing proves copper's efficacy against infectious bacteria1, allowing for public health claims. Copper is the first solid surface material to receive this type of EPA registration.

LuminOre Copper Touch® copper alloys are bactericidal - they kill more than 99.9% of bacteria that cause hospital acquired infections (HAIs) within two hours of contact.

Why does LuminOre Copper Touch® use the term bactericidal instead of antimicrobial?

While "Antimicrobial Copper" is a commonly recognized name, the term antimicrobial can be misleading because many coatings and additives that claim to be antimicrobial do not actually kill bacteria. These coatings and additives only reduce odor and discoloration or inhibit bacterial growth. While antimcrobial means to inhibit, the term bactericidal literally means kill or destroy bacteria. LuminOre Copper Touch® bactericidal copper surfaces actually kill bacteria and are registered with the EPA to make public health claims.

These characteristics make CuVerro bactericidal copper the ideal solid surface material:

Continuously Kills Bacteria1

  • Efficacy as an antimicrobial is proven more effective than stainless steel or silver-containing coatings

  • Proven to continuously kill the bacteria1 that cause infections

  • The only class of solid metal antimicrobial surfaces registered by EPA

Never Wears Out

  • Continuous and ongoing antimicrobial action

  • Remains effective even after repeated wet and dry abrasion and re-contamination

  • Natural tarnishing does not impair antimicrobial efficacy

Solid Surface Alloy

  • Composed of at least 60% copper

  • Suitable alternative to other common materials

  • Available in a wide range of forms and finishes including ingot, sheet, strip, rod, and tube

Safe to Use

  • Not harmful to people or the environment

  • Inherently antimicrobial, no chemicals added

  • Made from at least 80% recycled content and 100% recyclable
